In reply to Post #1000 Hey guys,
My name is Keyvan and im from Germany. Had a big break from fishing until last year., maybe about almost 10 years. Since i have always been inspired by english pike anglers, the step forward to check some forums was not too far away. Forums in germany just dont offer what i am looking for. I stayed reading in this forum for a while, learning many things in here. Hope to be able to give something in return to other guys in the future;-)
Cheers!

Hi,
Have come across from the Carp Forum, I'm from West Sussex , and looking through the posts below have not seen many people on from around here ?
joined a local club last year with access to some lovely lakes / rivers across sussex and had to get back into piking after seeing where I could fish.
Fished for them for a few seasons when I was in my teens, (15 odd years ago) and just started again this winter although I have often had the odd spin for pike if I get bored carp fishing. Had a lot of fun with Jacks and over the years spinning, and had pike to high teens when I was a teen myself. don't remember ever weighing them !
Only been out a couple of times this winter but have loved it all with a few jacks and a high double from boats. I do however need more practice on handling them and knowing the best ways / times / weather to fish for them in and this is why I have come across to this forum - so I can pester you all with some beginner questions !
Thanks
Reuben

In reply to Post #1000 Hi I'm Pete from peterborough, been fishing for most of my life (thats a long time) I'm as happy sitting on my tacklebox early morning as the steam rises form the water, watching a peacock quill as it slowly disappears as a summer tench swims off with my bait as I am strapped to a fighting chair , sun beating down, my back acheing listening to the reel screem as a blue marlin leaps out of the water time after time.
I have always had a fondess for winter pike fishing (even if my old bones aren't that happy about it anymore) so thought I would join in, learn some new technique and maybe resurrect a few old ones.

In reply to Post #1000 Hi all. Im Andy from Pontefract. Im new to the forum & fairly new to pike fishing. After spending time with my uncle watching & learning last winter, I caught my first pike & that was it. This season I started fishing by myself & after thinking I was Mick Brown for a bit, landing quite a few fish including a 16lb 2oz (which I still smile about) things have gone quiet but this just gets me looking forward to the next session but also led me to finding this forum searching for advice, tips, tactics whilst trying to learn more.

In reply to Post #1000 Hi,
I'm Geoff from Sunderland.
I used to pike fish as a teen in Manchester (canals) as I couldn't sea fish regularly.
Now I live by the sea but find the decent fish are so few and far between that i am reminiscing about my pike days.
I've also discovered that a £1 worth of sprats from Morrisons gets me fishing for the day as opposed to the £15 at least I have been tossing in the ocean!
I already have all the gear from my sea fishing so am getting a rod license and giving it a go.
The only down side is how hard it is to find where you are allowed to fish.
However I have spent a day on the internet with a note pad and think I have most of the local free stretches mapped out.
Wish me luck!

In reply to Post #1000 Greetings from Vampike in sunny Transilvania!
I am a UK ex-pat retired here as the closest place to paradise on earth.
Right near the famous "Pike Lake" (Lake Sacalaia) 18metres deep with boat fishing only (coz of the reeds)
We are halfway up a hill over looking the 1000year old town known as Armenopolis.
It is a 20 minute trot to the top of the hill there are wolves in the woods there, but they don't chase me.
Hope Im not strecthing the rules for a UK site, the uk government sends me my state pension here
Love the Pike fishing (is it sacrilege to mention that I like Carp fishing here too??)
BY the way the local word for Carp is Crap (I noticed a member here with username crapfisherman and wondered if he had been carp fishing in Transilvania or was just being modest.
I love the forum, sorry if I get excommunicated for being out of the UK, otherwise look forward to pike tales from abroad

In reply to Post #1000 Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forum and have been out of the Pike scene for 15 years (I wasn't doing bird, I got hijacked by some fly fishers and have been fluff chucking since).
Looking to return to my first fishy love and would welcome any help and support over the next few months catching up on all the changes (Titanium Wire, Jerk Baits, Bait Boats ......... WTF!).
I gave away all my tackle including my Baitrunners and Abu rods (now I am showing my age) ten years ago, so I will be looking to kit myself up over the summer ready for a September kick-off.
I'm based on the Hampshire/Berkshire border between Basingstoke and Reading.
If anybody fancies a trip out with a born-again Piker, please drop me a PM.

In reply to Post #572 Hi there Rob (me best Yank accent )
Welcome mate, dunno much about piking in Sussex, always worth an email to the local PAC R.O., he might be able to help you if there is one that covers that area. Have a look in www.pacgb.co.uk then have a look at Regions on the map of the UK and click on the area to get the REGIONAL OFFICER.
It's the only voice for piking in the UK !

In reply to Post #567 Don't go with high expectations when the weather is rubbish. Cold winds, rain, snow, drop in temperatures plus it dosen't make fishing enjoyable when it's like that and all for a blank too !
Wait for a hike in temps to at least 5c warmer over a few days and go on a cloudy day and fish till an hour in to dark.
Come back and tell us what you caught.
Welcome to THE forum

In reply to Post #1000 Hello all from Norwich. I used to post on another site until it got bogged down with infighting. First visit to a forum in a year or so. looks good and some decent people.
Oh I fish rivers from a boat, lures in the summer, mixed deads and lives in the winter. Trout season competition and pleasure angler and enjoy fly fishing in the sea for mackerall (always get the spelling of that wrong !) and Sea Bass.

In reply to Post #1000 Now then fellas. I'm Mike from Barrow-in-Furness (Lake District). Picked up piking again in the last couple of years after a bit of a lay off. Get out as often as work allows on local waters and the big glacials with a few local lads. Recently took a trip to the Fens where i blanked horribly for three days but had the (dubious?!) honour of meeting Shrimp, Hancock and various other Man United haters! Good experience though and a cracking set of lads.

this year one outing so far and managed to get a 27lb which i believe is something of a rare catch.
i havent come on here to show off or anything i am a complete novice in the art of pike fishing and hope i will learn some valuable tips and advice etc.

In reply to Post #501 with the bait touching the bottom you are float legering del.
What I am looking at here is putting a sliding knot on your main line, bead then the float. followed bt trace.
This way you can alter the depth you are fishing without having to strip everything down to do so.
It also hels as you are literally on casting how much line / trace you want out.
check out the pac web site for other techniques.

In reply to Post #500 no its my first time going here. cheers for the tip. should i leave the leader long enough for the bait to touch the bottom. i find it awkward to cast with the float on and bait a good bit away, it looks like its spinning round each other, do you know what i mean?
|
|
|
#500 16 Sept 2011 at 11.05pm | | |
|
In reply to Post #499 Set your chosen bait under a float mate.
Cast out let it settle, leave for a bit, then wind in a few yards then stop,
bait will get dragged along under the float and then drift back down when you stop winding.
Do you know the loch well you're fishing (don't name it as we have a no naming policy which is spot on and don't fancy crossing waterwolf after reading one of his previous posts )
If so go for the drop offs

In reply to Post #498 cheers. i am deadbaiting, got mackerel and herring. what do you mean wobbled? im going to a loch thats stocked with rainbow trout so a rainbow would be a good choice. would you recommend close to the edge to drop the bait? im from glasgow by the way. anyone else?

In reply to Post #496 Welcome Del. Hope you get a good day out tomorrow. If your deadbaiting it can be a slow game but you do sometimes get the bigger fish on deads and you never know when one is going to turn up - thats fishing for ya. As the pike are quite active at the moment a wobbled bait can get results and fill out the time while you waiting for a run. BTW I like a small rainbow deadbait for the bigger fish

In reply to Post #472 Hi guys,
I'm from the Wirral but have been living in Northern Sweden for the past couple of years. Starting to really enjoy fishing, although I'm still very much a novice to be honest. I don't fish for pike specifically, although we seem to get plenty around these parts. I generally use a spinning lure and aside from the odd pike, tend to hook perch, brown trout and something else I can't translate. Last summer I caught my largest fish which happened to be a pike which was great fun.
Looking forward to being part of the board and hopefully picking up some tips and sharing some adventures!
Cheers!

In reply to Post #1000 Hello, my name is Andy and I'm from Ayrshire in the south west of Scotland. I'm quite an inexperienced Pike fisherman although not an inexperienced angler.
I mainly fish rivers and lochs for Trout and Salmon, however, I'm looking to get into Pike fishing with more time and effort put towards it.

In reply to Post #384 Yeah yeah alright
Considering we ain't spoke for 6-8 months it took some working out!
I get all sorts of loonies phoning me now my number is "out there".
Straight after your call in fact, i had some Eastern European call me saying he had thousands of lures and ran a tackle shop in Romford. I thought it was one of those NW boys on a wind-up further down the bank..
..then he sent a picture of inside his shop and i realised he weren't joking

I am down in East Sussex, nr Eastbourne, just recently taken up serious Pike fishing and have joined the Pike Anglers Club to attend some teach ins.
Started fishing about 1978 then had a loooooong break (around 20 yrs) but took it up again 5 yrs ago.
Hope to get lots out of the site but be able to add as I gain experience.
