To be honest i think rod licenses are just another way for the government to get money out of us. I do have a rod license and buy 2 every year.

I,m on the banks of the trent and derwent about 80 days in any one season and in over 20 years i,ve only been asked for my rod licence twice. Dont know where the bailiffs are in the midlands. It must seem like utopia to the cheats and dodgers.

I have been checked may be half a dozen times in 30 odd years, but I still get one every year, I would not be comfortable without it. You probably have never had your driving licence checked but you would be a fool to drive without one. As for a sea licence, I don,t see how it can benefit anglers, the powers that be are reluctant to introduce any measures that protect our sea resources, particularly if it upsets the commercial fishermen, if stocks cannot be protected from over fishing what possible benefit could a licence offer.

Fished for over 20 years and never ever once have I been checked for a license! Yet I've always bought one...

Keep hearing about government suggestions to introduce a sea fishing license. What do you think about that?

The EA Baliff in my area (Jim) is well on top of the poaching ... 2 out of 3 times fishing this week he has arrived and had a chat and checked my rod licence ... I peronally think it is a very good thing that he is doing his job and maybe anglers who know people are taking the micky and fishing the same waters as they are for free should point out to the EA that their local baliff is not doing his job ... You never know you might land yourself a job as a local baliff ...

I have no time for people who claim to be part of the scene yet will not do the right thing and pay 25 for the rod licence ...

i was fishing a welsh water in april.i,ve got 1 rod licence.had 3 rods set up and was taking it in turns taking 1 rod out at a time.had taken 1 rod out and left it on the rest, line in the margins,NO BAIT ON THE HOOKS.2 enviroment bailiffs turn up and do me for fishing with 3 rods with only 1 licence(which i produced).gutted is not the word.i am a mature angler and know technically i was in the wrong, but surely common sense should prevail.not wet a line since.pleaded guilty by letter and am awaiting my fate(big fine probably)
