first thing I checked was for marks and none, the swims haven't been fished for 2 weeks due to the river being high, looking at the water marks gone down about 7 feet.the swim I was in I would expect most dead fish coming down the river to end up,why I fish it,but couldn't explain why two perch of this size where there, about 100m apart, and a roach of about 1 lb floating in the branches which I couldn't reach, perhaps it is normal after a flood?and the pike eat most of these fish before us pikers get a look at them

That's worrying. Any marks on the perch? If nto could be a problem with the water

well Its been a while but have had a few doubles out over the last few weekends all between 14 half and just over 17,running out of time to get a river 20,it was strange today looking at quite a few dead fish about,i even hooked a dead perch about 2 lb(in the freezer now) this was in deep water where I know the big girls hold up,been there a while I think,i wasn't the only person another piker found a big perch dead up near his bank that he was fishing, these sort of bait fish shouldn't be there, should of been found by a pike before us

could of been a 30 but more like it was 3 tried it again yesterday, but after a few hours he opened up 3 weirs, that meant a wade through 3 feet of running water to get out,so changed to a lock cut did get one wasn't a monster but it was nice to see a pike in perfect condition,so it will be off to the trout ress at the weekend, because I think the river will be in full flood again but will check on Friday just in case it isn't

If you turn up feeling unoptimistic then you will usually fish that way. Get some PMA!!!

Positive Mental Attitude!!

Don't just go through the motions. Fish like it matters.

Good hauling Tim, especially like the zander! I have barely done any zander or pike fishing this winter, been concentrating on trying to catch a 7lb chub and last Saturday I finally managed it :-)

Hi ray, hope you and the family are OK mate. Yeah I was finally out on the river last thursday for the first time for a while due to high floods mate. It's one of my old haunts which i havent fished for a while. Ended up putting three doubles on the bank 13.4. 14 and a 15.14 so was happy with that Ray.

3 doubles for me today. Tried a new swim and had a 15 lb in the first hour. Sat it out for another 4 hours and nothing more so tried another venue for the afternoon on the way home.
About 45 mins in had a dropped run then 5 mins later caught a 14.02 just as the light was fadding.
Stayed for an hour into dark and had a 12.08 to finish off the day.
Moving was worth the effort today

hello guys

its been a while. lets start with a belated happy new year and all the best wishes.

back to busines...

91 cm and 7,3 kg (16,09lbs) lure caught urban z

111 cm and 11,4 kg(25,13lbs) on a smelt

double take after dark

the z had a little story as i caught it while visiting friends

Spent New Year's Eve in the lovely city of Hamburg which is on the mighty Elbe river.
The Elbe is Germany's second biggest river and renown for its high productivity of Zander due to being a tidal river.
Hamburg offers some of the country's finest urban fishing so we opted for a spot in the innercity. Had a look at tidal phases and there was high tide at 7:49, we would be fishing at 8 to get the best of both tidal times and dawn light phases.
After 7 minutes I was in, weird fight in deep harbor water (13metres), first thought of a double figure pike because of the explosive runs and lack of headshaking but was well surprised.

kind regards,

your favourite kraut

Well done Chris. Look forward to some pics, try this;

The following is how to post a pic...

First of all you will need to sign up to an image hosting site, I tend to use photobucket but there are others...

Photobucket

Once you have uploaded your images onto photobucket or imageshack etc.

Look for the picture you have uploaded and then underneath the picture there will be three boxes, URL link, HTML tag and IMG code.

Highlight the URL link and copy it.

Once you have copied it go back on to pikeforum and paste the URL link into the message box.

When you have pasted the URL link into the message box add this to the start of the link...

< img src=

I have had to put a space in between the little arrow and the img so that it shows up, when posting a pic do not leave a space

when you have done that go to the end of the link and then add the following symbol..

>

This will then create the image when you post the link up..

Shrinking the image down so that it is more forum friendly

At the end of the link just before the > add width=500.

it will look something like this

.jpg width=500>

that is what you want it to look like to scale the image to a more forum friendly size

Strong winds but very mild today so was surprised nothing was mooching about. Tried everything during the day but nowt. Then just as thinking about packing up when the left hand rod sprung into action and line peeled off at a steady pace. A very long fish came to the net but on the mat it was very skinny and went just over 16lbs. It was a length of a twenty but maybe had swallowed someone's trace as it was seriously underfed. Still a nice double to end the day
Just as I packed one rod away, the other rod went off and in came a nice fat 14.04

So ,glad I didn't pack up early and two nice doubles in the last hour made up for all the earlier hard work

Got to love a good olf fishermans tale! Well done on the 16 Jason. I went out onto a local trout lake at the weekend and had 7 follows and lost two. Very frustrating day! My boat partner had one take and it resulted in a 20, then i9t got too windy. Will be on again this weekend if the wind doesn't turn up

things are going from bad to worse for me this year i was planning a day tomorrow but i had the gas engineer out today to service my boiler and he turned it off as he was not getting a gas flow rate at the meter so i had to ring my gas supplier after 4 hours of telephone calls and emails i was informed to ring national grid which i did and they told me it was a gas suppliers problem ok fair enough emails gas supplier back to inform them and the reply i got was dont know why they told you that we have just rang them and they will be with you in 2 hours so the gas engineer turns up fixes the gas meter but still no boilier got to ring those engineers tomorrow to get them to come and reinstate the boiler so thats my fishing out the window till next week at the earlist

well spent the weekend with the fluff chuckers, did blank but I think most off the other pikers did aswell, funny watching my nephew reeling in a 8 inch plug being followed by trout, him getting in a sweat because they weren't taking it ,after the 4 or 5 follow I had to tell him why he couldn't catch them.they would of made nice bait on a drifter though

Belter of a session Neil! Unlucky Jason, they will come!
Had my 3rd, 4th and 5th pike of the season on Sunday. All jacks taken while perch fishing. I hope they are as easy to catch when I actually start fishing for them

it is tricky on your own to do,if the mouth on this pike would of opened fully,as I was with my nephew that day I would of took them out but there was just no room, I think to get them out, think of a normal pikes mouth fully opend up,on this pike I had about 2 inches, just wouldn't open up any more, but it did take my pollen

Tricky when you're on your own A mate and I fished a lake a few years back which was technically no fishing so everyone was having a go on there. Part time pikers included. I only fished it once. Two blokes fishing it when I turned up, gut hooked a pike and were going to cut the trace. Lukcily I showed them how to get the hooks out. I had a pike the next morning with another trace coming out of it and my mate had another with a trace coming out of it. Both badly gut hooked. We got them out but it was a tough two man job. Would have struggled by myself. I have rigged up a short length of wire with a snap link at one end and a thick piece of cardboard attached at the other end. If I catch a pike with another trace coming out of it while alone I clip the snap link to the end of the trace or top hook if showing and pull the cardboard tag with my teeth. Only had to do it once and it worked. Worth considering for all pikers.
On a lighter note, I kicked off my predator season with a brace of 9's at the weekend which hijacked my first zed session of the year. I think it was the same fish twice 4 hours apart. Once at 80m and the second time in the margins. No zeds but nice to get a couple of runs after a very hard summer

had my first double today about 13lb didn't weigh her because, opened her mouth up took my hook out, just inside the mouth, saw two more wire traces sticking out from her gut, thought to myself strange her mouth wont open fully.had alook aroung her and there was a growth near her scissors, which meant could only open her mouth a few inches, well made the choice there was now way I was going to get them out, maybe should of tried through the gill rakers? I did give her a rest in the landing net while I was thinking how to get them out,but on letting her go took about half an hour for her to swim off

First pike session for me today. 15:07 and a 14:10 got things off the mark nicely. Both hard fighting and a bit of tail walking thrown in. Nice.
